The Big Move

We had such a crazy busy weekend moving. It is bittersweet to be sitting in our new house writing this blog post eating chocolate peanut butter ice cream. As much as I wanted to move it was really sad to me.

Matt and I started our relationship in that house. We got our first dog, got engaged, got married, and brought our daughter to that home. While we have definitely out grown our townhouse and our new house is much needed I am definitely feeling a little indifferent about the whole situation. I am sure once we are more settled I will feel better about things.

I am happy to not be going back and forth between two houses anymore. The new house needed a lot more work that we had anticipated so we have spent the last week working on things. Matt painted the entire house with just the bathrooms left. We will wait until we find out the gender of the baby until we fully finish the kids bathroom. We do still need to go back to the old house to clean up and paint. We have renters moving in on the 21st so we still have some time thankfully.

It is no joke moving while pregnant with a toddler. Thankfully I had a lot of help and didn't have to do the actually lifting of things, but putting things away in a new house is just as exhausting. They (Matt and his dad) did a lot of work yesterday while I worked so there wasn't too much to move today but the whole house needed set up. My mother in law took Kinley all day yesterday and half the day today which was a huge help. They both love being with each other so it was a win for all.

After we got everything over we had to run out and get lights. There is only a light/ceiling fan in our room. Who does that?? I really want ceiling fans in all the rooms so that will be on the hunny do list :), though we might have to hire an electrician for that.

We put our TV on the mantel because it is the most practical place for it. We aren't sure what we think yet. Maybe we just aren't use to it since we were use to it being more at eye level. What are your thoughts on a TV on the mantel? Do you get use to looking up? I think we will trial it for a few days and then if we aren't hooked on it being up there we will try it somewhere else.

We still have a lot more to put together but I am very happy with how much we got done today. This weekend I really want to get to the pumpkin patch and decorate a little. I will definitely take more pictures when the house is put together more. But for now I will leave you with a cute picture of how happy our dog is to be able to have access to our bed again. Me not so much! I might be putting a gate at our door so he can't come in at night. He is the worst to sleep with!

This is how we slept last night anyways. I am pretty sure it is going to be a rough couple nights until everyone gets adjusted in the new place. Any tips?

Hope everyone has a good Monday!

  1. Aw! How sweet. I sort of know the feeling...we plan on moving out of this house in 2 years when I finish my master's and get a job. This is the house where I got engaged, moved in with my fiance, and started my life with him. Best of luck!!

    1. Thank you! It's really hard. And we moved down the street so I look at the house as I drive by. I'm sure it will get easier. Good luck on your masters degree!

  2. Congrats on moving - I know how bittersweet that can be, but you have new adventures ahead! I'm in the middle of my third move with my husband and each time you think you're excited to leave until it's really happening and then all the memories come back. But you'll make new ones soon!

  7. Having moved 7 times in the last 15 years, I definitely know what you're going through. There have been many times I couldn't wait to move out of a particular house, but when the moving truck comes, I always get hit with that pang of nostalgia about all of the memories we had there...especially the home where I had both of my babies! I don't have any tips except to give it time. It always takes me six months or more until a new place feels like "home."
